matte means with no shimmer or sheen. its just a very plain color. What is matte eyeshadow? What sets it apart from other types?
it has no shine or anything... it's just colour.
I think matte means opaque as in not transparent-y and usually not shiny. When you apply it, it should have good pigmentation.
Lacks shimmer or sheen.

Like matte paint - it has a ';flat'; appearance.

It is generally seen in pressed powder forms.
Not sparkly or shimmery or metallic- It's just bare colour.

It's like coloured card. You can buy shimmery coloured card, or plain coloured card. Matte eye shadow would be like the plain coloured card.

Matte means no shine.

Matte shadows are plain looking. They come in a lot of colors as the other shadows do but they have no sparkles or shimmer. Basically every brand has matte shades.

btw: if you don't know how to pronounce it, you say it like the name Mat not like matty or matt with an A sound at the end.
Normal eyeshadow is used to brighten up people's eyes but matte is just flat color, it doesn't shimmer or anything it just gives a hue of color to your eyes, it's good for just going out the the store or something, not usually for a night on the town
